Like a grand concerto brought to a climactic close, SXSW, 2015 is now behind us, yet its impact on the music, film and interactive worlds still lingers on like a note held in sustain…building up to the encore performance. SXSW 2015, Austin TX came and went as quickly as a traveling tour, but its vibrational frequencies still reverberate with inspirational undertones that will carry us through till the next epic SXSW overture.
The world watches and waits as the newest bands, hottest film fads and latest technological trends begin to quake outwardly in all directions, like an epicenter of creative force changing the world in its wake. We are awed and humbled by the ensemble of talent present at SXSW, 2015, featuring an entire line up of artists, actors, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists who made their debut and performed at their finest.
While this concert of the ages rocked the music, film and interactive worlds with great new tunes and cool new tech, another world was feeling the beat of SXSW’s rhythm. The food and culinary world in Austin has quickly gained international spotlight with one of its own winning the top chef award and several of its restaurants earning top recognition by food critics and fans alike. Like a viral hit, Austin continues to rise to the top of the charts as a favorite food destination for food enthusiasts everywhere.
Food trucks, food tasting and food tours are as much a part of the Austin scene as is the music that’s piped from every stage, the films produced at every corner and the technology developed at every turn.. Austin’s food scene is a fusion of just about everything, resulting in new and exciting ways to enjoy the culinary craft such as Asian-Mexican fusion, Tex-Mex and a variety of others. If the age-old favorite among fans in Austin is barbecue and could be equated to blues, then the introduction of exciting new foods now taking Austin could be likened to country, jazz, indie, rock, progressive, EDM, that equally is rising in popularity here in the acclaimed, “live music capitol of the world”.
This quest for the best in all things food, fun and festivity has also made way for food truck utopia! Like a major music festival featuring bands from around the world and all performing at one phenomenal venue, food trucks are the performers and we food enthusiasts here in Austin are the restless audience, eagerly awaiting the next “tune” to tantalize our taste buds. Food trucks in Austin number in the hundreds and can typically be found performing their signature dishes to the raving fans who follow them.
As if the choice of food itself were not enough, there are the venues to consider… Austin restaurants are an eclectic blend of artistic decor, country cool and outdoor ambiance set typically to the mood of… you guessed it – music! Austin restaurants welcome local artists, cater to local artists and do so in a setting that makes one want to set outside on the patio… soaking in the essence of the best that Austin has to offer.
With so much to explore and experience in the way of food, Austin has unexpectedly and inadvertently created a fourth pillar or dimension if you will, worthy of SXSW’s attention – the food category! SXSW should no longer be only film, music and interactive; it should proudly open its festivities to the best new fad to take Austin by storm – food, Food, FOOD everyone! Then consider this – the “X” in “SXSW” with its 4-pronged shape is a message in itself that attests to the logic of this newly proposed, 4th dimension that should be included in the festival’s lineup.
Adding a fourth dimension to the SXSW realm would be beneficial to Austin on so many levels. It would introduce Austin’s fine array of restaurants to the tourists from around the world visiting SXSW for the other aspects of the festival. It would benefit the local eateries so they can prepare their signature dishes and earn raving reviews in the process from out of town/state/country visitors. Also, the revenue brought in just for the Food portion of SXSW would benefit Austin on unprecedented levels since food tourism and food traveling is as much a part of the tourism industry as are historical places of interest.
Austin, make way for the new SXSW – Film, Music, Interactive and FOOD Festival! The Food Tasting Network is a proud proponent of this new direction and welcomes others to help prepare the way for the fabulous food and fun that is certain to come!
